Furniture Care Guide

A couple on a woodworking course in Wales

With a little care, your hand-built item of furniture last a lifetime and may even become a treasured family heirloom and we've put together this simple guide to help it stay as beautiful as the day that you first brought it home.

Everyday Care

⦁    Simply dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
⦁    Always mop up any liquid spills, wiping with a damp cloth to remove any residue of wine/coffee etc.

Polishing

Our furniture has a water-repellent finish (Osmo Polyx Oil - Satin 3032) that is easy to care for and does not need re-applying.
Should you wish to use a wax polish, we would recommend you use Renaissance Wax for this.

Repairs & Maintenance

Should your furniture become damaged in any way (scratches, knocks, children’s felt pens or paints etc) it is very easy to repair this.

Minor scratches, knocks, felt-tip pen marks and paint stains can be repaired easily.

Repair steps:

1.    Simply lightly the sand the area of the damage to completely remove it.
2.    Re-apply a thin coat of Osmo Polyx Oil to the repaired area.
3.    Once the oil is dry, the furniture should be good as new.
You can buy Osmo Oil from most good paint & finish stores, and it is available in small “sample pots” which are usually all that is required for a small repair.
Outdoor Furniture, House Signs & Swings
All our garden and outdoor furniture is made of oak which is very durable when exposed to the elements. It is finished with an exterior grade of Osmo Oil (UV Protection Oil Satin 420).

Oak kept outdoors usually weathers to a soft silvery-grey colour over time, but this can be avoided by re-applying the UV Protection Oil annually if you so desire.

Chopping Boards

All our chopping boards are finished with Grapeseed Oil (available from large supermarkets and whole food shops). This is a vegetable oil suitable for most people with nut allergies, and it dries on wood without going rancid.
⦁    Hand wash with soap and water after use.
⦁    You can reapply grapeseed oil you desire
⦁    Please do not put your chopping board in the dishwasher.
